FIDO2

In short and in plain language

FIDO2 is the name for rules that let you sign in without a password.

You sign in with a key on your own device. You unlock it with your finger, for example.

You do not have to remember a password. This helps many people.

Definition
FIDO2 is the common name for open sign-in standards of the FIDO Alliance and the W3C, which include WebAuthn. They allow signing in without a password, for example with passkeys that the device unlocks by fingerprint, face recognition or PIN. Because no password has to be typed or remembered, this can make signing in easier.
