Pricing for BFSG audits and remediation — fixed figures instead of day rates

Accessibility can be budgeted. The BFSG quick check starts at €490, the full WCAG 2.2 AA audit at €2,480, audit and remediation as a complete package at €4,900 — all net plus VAT. This page explains what each package contains, which factors drive the effort and how a short review turns into a binding fixed-price offer.

The most common question in a first conversation is: what does it cost? It is a fair question, because since 28 June 2025 digital accessibility has been a legal obligation for many providers — and obligations need a budget. We therefore answer it with a fixed price you have in writing before the project starts, not with a day rate. This page opens up the calculation: which services sit in which package, which six factors move the effort up or down, and where the limits of a flat rate are. Which obligations apply to you at all is covered on the page about BFSG requirements; how an audit works methodically is described on the page about the WCAG 2.2 audit. An overview of the full service range is available under services.

Why We Work With Fixed Prices

For most companies an accessibility project is a one-off undertaking without any benchmark. Anyone who has never commissioned a WCAG audit cannot judge whether 12 or 30 person-days are appropriate. That is precisely why time-and-materials billing is unfavourable here: it shifts the entire estimation risk onto the party that knows the least about the audit process. We reverse that. After a short, free review of your website we define the audit scope — which page types, which processes, which documents — and name a price that does not change as long as the scope does not change. You budget one figure, not a range.

The second reason is about substance. An audit billed by the hour has an economic incentive to take a long time. An audit at a fixed price has an incentive to be systematic and reproducible. Our methodology therefore follows a fixed sequence: automated analysis, manual evaluation of all success criteria, practical tests with assistive technologies, prioritization by severity. That sequence grew out of more than 50 projects (project experience) and can be planned — otherwise we could not name a fixed price. Automated tools alone detect only 30 to 50 percent (WebAIM 2024) of the barriers actually present; the plannable but indispensable part is the manual review, and exactly that part sits inside the fixed price.

What a fixed price does not mean: that every project costs the same. A shop with a configurator, customer accounts and three payment routes requires a different testing effort than a corporate website with twelve pages and one contact form. The packages below cover the standard case. Anything beyond that we calculate after a review — also as a fixed price, just with an individually determined figure.

All prices net plus VAT. Every package starts with a free initial consultation and a short review; after that you receive a binding fixed-price offer. Larger websites, shops and portals are calculated by page type and process.

What Drives the Effort: Six Factors

The price difference between two projects rarely comes from where clients expect it. It is not the number of products or blog posts that drives the effort, but the number of distinct page types and the complexity of the interactive processes. A website with 400 near-identical product pages is tested by pattern, not 400 times individually. A website with 20 pages but eight different templates, one multi-step form and an embedded booking widget causes considerably more testing work. In practice these six factors determine the price range.

Page types, not page counts

We test a representative sample following the methodology of EN 301 549, Annex C: one representative per template. Ten templates mean more effort than a thousand detail pages from the same template. That is why we ask about the number of layouts in the first conversation, not the number of URLs.

Interactive processes

Form journeys, cart, checkout, login, appointment booking and configurators have to be walked end to end — with a keyboard, with a screen reader and with faulty input. Every additional multi-step process is its own testing block in the offer.

State of the source code

Semantic HTML with a clean heading structure can be improved selectively. A front end that builds buttons from div elements and manages focus in JavaScript requires structural work. For remediation this factor is the biggest lever in either direction.

Third-party building blocks

Payment forms, review widgets, maps, chat windows and cookie banners often sit outside your own code. They still have to be tested and documented, and coordinating with the provider takes time. How responsibility is shared is covered in the article on third-party widgets.

Documents and media

PDF documents, videos and podcasts fall under the requirements too. They are not part of the website audit but are calculated separately: accessible PDFs from €4.90 per page, captions and transcripts by the length of the material.

Re-testing and verification

After remediation every finding is checked again, plus a sample for newly introduced barriers. This re-test is part of the complete package; after a stand-alone audit you book it separately. On an ongoing basis it is covered by BFSG monitoring.

Individual Services at a Fixed Price

Not every project starts with a full audit. Some companies have already tested and only need the legally sound statement; others must deliver a stack of forms as accessible PDF documents at short notice, or provide a landing page in easy-to-read language. All of the following services can be booked individually and come with fixed prices.

How to read these prices

All amounts stated are net prices plus statutory VAT. "From" prices denote the entry point for the described standard case; the binding amount appears in the written offer you receive before the project starts. Travel costs only arise for explicitly agreed on-site appointments. The initial consultation and the review that precedes the offer are free of charge.

Re-testing: What Costs Remain After the Audit

Accessibility is not a state that is reached once and then preserved. Every change to a website can introduce new barriers: a new content element without alt text, a theme update that removes the focus outline, a newly embedded widget without keyboard access. An honest price statement therefore has to include the part that arises after the project. It is considerably smaller than the initial effort, but it is not zero.

Concretely that means two things. The re-test after remediation is included in the complete package. Beyond that we recommend, first, ongoing monitoring from €49 net per month covering automated scans, alerts on regressions and maintenance of the accessibility statement. Second, a full re-audit roughly every twelve months and additionally after every major relaunch, system change or new feature area. In premium monitoring from €349 net per month this annual full audit is already included; otherwise you book it as a regular WCAG 2.2 audit from €2,480 net.

Anyone who wants to reduce follow-up costs permanently invests in their own editorial and development teams. A team that knows what a useful alt text looks like and why a heading level should not be skipped produces considerably fewer new findings. That is exactly the purpose of our training: it moves accessibility from after-the-fact correction into the ongoing process — and thereby moves budget from repair into creation.

What the Price Does Not Include

Transparency also means naming the limits of a flat rate. The following items are deliberately not included in the fixed prices of the three main packages, because their effort cannot be sensibly generalized. They can be added at any time — each with its own fixed price or after a review.

  • Editorial work on your content — we point out which alt texts are missing or unusable, but we only write them on explicit instruction.
  • Remediation of PDF documents — documents are a separate service from €4.90 net per page, independent of the website audit.
  • Captions, transcripts and audio description — the effort depends on the length of the material and is calculated after review.
  • Design and relaunch work — we work in the existing code; a new design is a project of its own.
  • Licences and third-party costs — for example paid screen reader licences on your side or fees charged by external providers.
  • Fixes inside third-party systems — we document barriers in embedded payment or booking forms; only the provider can change them.

Cost, Benefit and Exemptions: Three Articles

How the investment in an audit can be assessed in business terms is covered in the article on the cost and return of an accessibility audit. Whether you are affected at all as a micro-enterprise is explained in the article on the micro-enterprise exemption. And when a measure may be documented as a disproportionate burden is described in the article on Section 17 BFSG. Which service sits behind which price is set out on the services page; general questions are collected on our FAQ page.
