Questions About Specific Website Types
Does my intranet need to be accessible?
Answer
From the BFSG's perspective not directly: the law addresses products and services for consumers, so purely internal systems like an employee intranet do not fall within its scope.
That does not settle the matter, though. Employers may be obligated under the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) and labor law to provide employees with disabilities accessible work tools, and an inaccessible intranet can become a problem here. On top of that: enabling accessible work widens the applicant pool and strengthens inclusion within the company.
On request we also test internal applications by the same WCAG standards. Whether and to what extent that makes sense for you, we are glad to clarify in the initial consultation.
